Kogi Revenue Laws Signed To Boost Transparency

Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has enacted two new revenue laws aimed at bolstering the state’s income and enhancing the transparency of tax collection. The laws, signed into effect on Thursday, are designed to leverage digital technology to minimize human interference and maximize accountability in the revenue collection process.

The Kogi State Internal Revenue Service Establishment Law, 2025, and the Kogi State Taxes and Levies (Approved List for Collection) Law, 2025, are the two key pieces of legislation signed by Governor Ododo. These laws introduce a digital and technology-driven approach to tax collection, ensuring a more streamlined and efficient process.

A notable provision of the new laws is the exemption of individuals earning below N800,000 annually from paying taxes. This move is intended to alleviate the financial burden on low-income earners and promote economic growth. Furthermore, the laws simplify the process for businesses to invest in the state, reducing compliance costs and facilitating a more favorable business environment.

According to Governor Ododo, the primary objective of these laws is to strengthen the state’s economy, ensure fairness in tax collection, and protect the dignity of citizens. By introducing a more transparent and efficient tax collection system, the government aims to increase revenue and allocate resources more effectively.

The introduction of these laws is a significant step towards enhancing the economic development of Kogi State. By leveraging technology and streamlining tax collection processes, the state government can reduce revenue leakage and increase its income. This, in turn, can lead to improved public services and infrastructure development, ultimately benefiting the citizens of Kogi State.

The implementation of these laws is expected to have a positive impact on the state’s economy, and their effectiveness will be closely monitored by stakeholders. As the state government continues to work towards improving its revenue collection processes, it is likely that further reforms will be introduced to support economic growth and development in Kogi State.
