The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is preparing a series of high‑level meetings with key stakeholders, including former presidential candidates Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar. Emma Ogidi, the PDP chairman for the South‑South zone, revealed this during an interview on Channels Television’s “The Morning Brief.” She said the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) was inaugurated in Ibadan, Oyo State, and that, as part of its outreach, the PDP intends to meet foundation members, religious leaders, traditional rulers and other influential figures.
Ogidi explained that these meetings aim to reaffirm the PDP’s presence and its commitment to democracy in Nigeria. The party has already begun discussions with prominent personalities such as former President Olusegun Obasanjo and General Ibrahim Babangida. She emphasized that the PDP’s vision for Nigeria remains unchanged and that the party is working to remind Nigerians of its past achievements.
In contrast to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which Ogidi described as an “aberration,” the PDP seeks to differentiate itself by reconnecting with its roots. The planned engagements with Obi and Abubakar are significant because, as former presidential candidates, their perspectives and endorsements carry substantial weight in the political landscape.
Through this outreach, the PDP aims to shore up support and rebuild its image ahead of future elections. By engaging key stakeholders and reaffirming its democratic commitment, the party hopes to reestablish itself as a major player in Nigerian politics. How these meetings will affect the PDP’s relationships with other political figures and its prospects in upcoming elections remains to be seen, but the effort could have notable implications for the country’s political future.
