The Lagos State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has clarified that it is not in official talks with the Labour Party about any alliance ahead of Saturday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections. The party’s Publicity Secretary, Hakeem Amode, made the statement on Monday, emphasizing the need to refute claims made by Labour Party candidate Gbadebo Rhodes‑Vivour that he was negotiating with “the real owners of the PDP structure in Lagos State.”
Amode described Rhodes‑Vivour’s remarks as disrespectful to the PDP, noting that no individual can claim ownership of the party’s structure. He stressed that the PDP is a democratic organization and that only the state executive, recognized by the national body, serves as its custodian. This executive operates under the leadership of the party’s governorship candidate, Dr. Abdul‑Azeez Olajide Adediran (Jandor). Consequently, any discussions Rhodes‑Vivour may be having are personal and do not represent Lagos PDP, as there is currently no official dialogue between the two parties.
Amode, who also chairs the Media and Publicity Committee of the Jandor‑Funke 2023 Campaign Council, affirmed that Jandor has no intention of stepping down for any other candidate and denied rumors that he would dismantle his structure to work for the Labour Party. He highlighted the extensive effort the PDP candidate has invested in building his brand and urged supporters and the people of Lagos to respect and defend the electorate’s decision in the upcoming March 11 gubernatorial election.
Finally, Amode warned that attempts to undermine the campaign to free Lagos from the incumbent APC administration should not be dismissed as mere social‑media chatter. He called for vigilance against speculation that opposition parties were planning a pre‑election alliance, reaffirming the PDP’s independent stance.
