APC Leader Resigns Over Failed Government

A former presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, Dr. SKC Ogbonnia, has submitted his resignation from the party. The resignation letter, dated Tuesday, was addressed to the APC chairman of Owelli/Amoli/Ugbo/Ogugu Ward in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State. Ogbonnia cited the party’s alleged failure to address critical issues, including insecurity, poverty, and unemployment, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.

According to the letter, Ogbonnia’s decision to resign followed extensive consultations with his family and political allies, as well as a thorough reflection on the current state of politics in Nigeria and within the party. He emphasized that his initial enthusiasm for joining the APC, which he did as a founding member, had been dampened by recent events and the party’s trajectory. Ogbonnia enclosed his APC membership card with the resignation letter, which was copied to all tiers of the party.

Ogbonnia specifically mentioned the lack of internal party democracy, citing undemocratic practices, imposition of leaders, and marginalization of loyal members. He also expressed concern over the party’s perceived pursuit of a one-party state, which he claimed was being achieved through underhand tactics to stifle opposition. Furthermore, Ogbonnia highlighted the absence of youth in key federal appointments, signaling a disregard for the future generation.

The resignation comes amidst growing concerns over the state of politics in Nigeria. Ogbonnia’s decision may be seen as a significant development, given his previous involvement with the party. As a former presidential aspirant, his departure could have implications for the party’s internal dynamics and its ability to address the concerns he raised. With his resignation, Ogbonnia becomes the latest in a string of high-profile departures from the party, highlighting the need for the APC to reassess its strategies and priorities. The development is likely to be closely watched by political observers and analysts, who will be keen to see how the party responds to the issues raised by Ogbonnia.
