Ogunbiyi Backs Oyebamiji for Osun Governorship

A former governorship aspirant in Osun State, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, has directed his supporters to join the campaign structure of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji. Ogunbiyi, who is the chairman of Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc, gave the directive during a meeting with his campaign organization, Idera De Movement, in Osogbo, the state capital.

The meeting, which was attended by leaders and members of the organization from the 30 local government areas in the state, aimed to appreciate their efforts and brief them on the current political developments. Ogunbiyi encouraged his supporters to accept the decision of the party and work towards the emergence of Oyebamiji, who is from the West Senatorial District, as the governor of Osun State.

Ogunbiyi noted that the emergence of Oyebamiji has addressed one of the demands of the West Senatorial District, which had been seeking to produce the governorship candidate. He emphasized that his vision to govern the state has become a secondary issue now that a candidate has emerged, and that all aspirants, including himself, have agreed to work for the party.

The former aspirant also expressed confidence that the Iwo Federal Constituency, which has over 170,000 voters, would deliver for Oyebamiji and the APC in the upcoming election. He stated that his supporters in the constituency would work tirelessly to ensure the party’s victory.

Regarding his future political ambition, Ogunbiyi said that his priority is to support Oyebamiji’s candidacy and ensure his emergence as the governor of Osun State. He hinted that he may contest for the senatorial seat in the West Senatorial District in the future, but only if Oyebamiji emerges as the governor.

The development comes after Ogunbiyi, along with six other aspirants, was barred from contesting the APC governorship primary due to gaps and irregularities in their nomination processes. However, the issues were later resolved, and all the disqualified aspirants, except one, participated in the primary election. The APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, is now set to contest the governorship election, with the support of Ogunbiyi and his supporters.
