IG bows to pressure, deploys Ganduje’s former CSO, Balarabe Sule, as Kano CP

Barring last-minute change, Balarabe Sule, a former Chief Security Officer to governor of Kano State Abdullahi Ganduje, will be posted to Kano as commissioner of police.

He will replace Mohammed Yakubu, who was posted to the state barely two weeks ago.

Police insiders confirmed to DAILY NIGERIAN that the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali, has ordered the posting of the police officer to the state, following pressure by the ruling party.

Credible sources told this newspaper that Mr Sule would be posted to Kano State alongside ACP Abubakar Shika and ACP Adamu Babayo.

Mr Sule, who was recently promoted to the rank of police commissioner and posted to Cross River State, was a deputy commissioner of police in charge of Operations in Kano for many years.

According to insiders, the three officers, who all worked together as a team, were widely believed to be a partisan officers used as agent of repression against members of the opposition.

DAILY NIGERIAN further learnt that the force secretary, DIG Hafiz Inuwa, who camped in Kano to supervise election in seven North West states may be asked to move his base to Zamfara.

Mr Inuwa was the one who insisted that the majority leader of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Doguwa, be arrested for killing members of the opposition.

Security inders said the postings indicate the police’s plan to compromise their duty in favour of the ruling party.

Recall that in 2019 governorship election rerun, police compromised their duty by giving cover armed thugs loyal to the ruling party to disrupt the election, and attack voters, election observers and journalists.
