Lagos police seize Indian hemp in raid on truck

The Lagos State Police Command has intercepted a large quantity of substances suspected to be Indian hemp during a routine patrol in the Ibeju-Lekki area. According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the interception occurred on January 18 when the driver of the truck attempted to evade arrest upon sighting the operatives.

The incident unfolded when the driver of the truck, in an attempt to escape, drove into a narrow street where the vehicle became stuck. The driver subsequently abandoned the truck and fled on foot, evading arrest. Although the suspect was not apprehended, the operatives successfully impounded the vehicle along with its contents.

A preliminary search of the truck revealed approximately 10 jumbo sacks of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, which were recovered as exhibits. The police are currently investigating to identify and apprehend the owner of the vehicle, which is expected to lead to the arrest of other individuals involved in the suspected criminal activity. As of now, no suspect is in custody, but efforts are being intensified to trace the owner of the truck.

The Lagos State Police Command has assured the public that it will provide further updates as investigations progress. The interception of the suspected Indian hemp is a significant development in the command’s efforts to combat drug trafficking in the state. The police have been working to disrupt the supply chain of illicit substances, and this latest seizure is a notable success in this regard.

The incident highlights the ongoing efforts of the Lagos State Police Command to tackle drug-related crimes and ensure public safety. The command’s Special Squad has been actively engaged in patrols and raids to curb the proliferation of illicit substances in the state. The police are urging members of the public to provide information that can aid in the arrest of those involved in drug trafficking and other criminal activities.

The Lagos State Police Command’s actions demonstrate its commitment to addressing the issue of drug trafficking and its related consequences. The command will continue to work tirelessly to identify and apprehend those involved in the illicit drug trade, with the ultimate goal of creating a safer and more secure environment for the citizens of Lagos State.
