Kogi doctors commend governor for N300000 monthly allowance

The Kogi State government has received praise from the Association of Resident Doctors at the Kogi Specialist Hospital for implementing a monthly allowance of N300,000 for medical doctors working in state-owned hospitals. The move aims to retain medical practitioners and attract skilled professionals to the state’s healthcare system.

According to Dr. David Omeiza, President of the Association of Resident Doctors, the allowance has already shown positive results since its introduction in October 2025, with improved patient care, operational efficiencies, and public health response in state-owned hospitals. The association commended Governor Ahmed Ododo for his efforts to improve the state’s healthcare sector, particularly his implementation of the Doctors’ Interventional Allowance.

The allowance is part of the state’s efforts to enhance healthcare delivery, alongside initiatives like health insurance for 76,000 beneficiaries, including local government civil servants, pensioners, and students. Governor Ododo approved the monthly allowance to curb the “Japa syndrome” (brain drain) and improve healthcare services, especially in rural areas.

The Association of Resident Doctors has urged the governor to continue his commitment to healthcare development, citing opportunities for growth and enhancement. The association reaffirmed its commitment to collaborate with the government for healthcare excellence and looks forward to a continued partnership with the Kogi State Government to establish the state as a healthcare hub.

Governor Ododo, who was sworn in for a four-year term on January 27, 2024, has made significant strides in improving the state’s healthcare sector. The introduction of the monthly allowance for medical doctors is a notable step towards addressing the challenges faced by the healthcare system in the state. As the state continues to work towards enhancing healthcare delivery, the partnership between the government and the Association of Resident Doctors is expected to play a crucial role in achieving this goal.
