Former Nigerian Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi embarked on a grassroots engagement tour in Abuja, visiting various Area Councils ahead of the Federal Capital Territory’s local elections. The former Anambra state governor began his tour in the Abuja Municipal Area Council, where he set out to engage with local communities and promote his vision of people-centered leadership. Obi’s first stop was the Abaji Area Council, where he campaigned alongside Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) chairmanship candidate. He spent an hour walking through the community, listening to residents’ concerns and aspirations.

Obi then proceeded to the Kwali Area Council to support Jeremiah Badoji, the ADC chairmanship candidate, and later visited Zuba to champion Pharmacist Iko Danjuma, the ADC candidate for Gwagwalada Area Council. He also stopped by Deidei Market, where he engaged with traders and residents while advocating for Dr. Moses Paul, the ADC chairmanship candidate for Abuja Municipal Area Council.

Throughout his tour, Obi emphasized the importance of leadership being grounded in the realities of the people it serves. He reiterated his commitment to inclusive development that benefits every sector of society. By engaging directly with local communities, Obi aimed to demonstrate his dedication to authentic and accessible leadership.

The Federal Capital Territory’s Area Council elections are a significant milestone in Nigeria’s democratic process, with various candidates vying for positions in the local government. Obi’s grassroots tour reflects his efforts to promote his party’s vision and values, as well as support its candidates in the upcoming elections. As the electoral process unfolds, Obi’s engagement with local communities is likely to continue, with a focus on promoting inclusive development and genuine leadership.
