Governor Warns: Discipline, Teamwork for Accountability

State Governor Monday Okpebholo has directed civil and public service leaders to prioritise discipline and teamwork to achieve measurable developmental outcomes, warning that public office is a platform for service, not personal enrichment.

Governor Okpebholo delivered the charge on Monday at the opening of a three-day Orientation and Leadership Retreat for top government officials in Uromi, Esan Central Local Government Area. The event, aimed at orienting and building capacity among senior officials, underscores the administration’s focus on performance and accountability.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Patrick Ebojele, the governor clarified that the retreat is not ceremonial but a deliberate strategic engagement. He stated that his administration is anchored on strict performance monitoring and accountability, with every government expenditure expected to deliver value and every policy to yield quantifiable results.

Okpebholo emphasised that the retreat seeks to reposition the government for improved service delivery, strengthen inter-agency collaboration among Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), and deepen officials’ understanding of governance processes. He reiterated that the administration operates under the “SHINE” agenda, described as practical governance focused on delivering tangible results.

The governor warned political appointees and senior bureaucrats that their performance will be closely monitored and evaluated throughout his tenure to ensure adherence to accountability standards. He stressed that public service demands a commitment to collective goals rather than individual gain.

This directive signals a renewed emphasis on results-oriented governance in Edo State, with senior officials now formally briefed on expectations for disciplined collaboration and transparent, impact-driven work as the administration moves forward.
