ADC Launches Nationwide Membership Drive to Expand Grassroots

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced the official launch of a nationwide membership registration drive, a significant organizational initiative aimed at consolidating the party’s structures and expanding its grassroots network across Nigeria.

The national exercise is scheduled to commence on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., with a flag-off ceremony at the Barcelona Hotel in Wuse 2, Abuja. The announcement was made by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, via his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

According to Abdullahi, the registration drive represents a major milestone in the ADC’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its internal framework. He framed the initiative as a crucial step toward “deepening internal democracy” and building a “people-powered movement” throughout the country. The campaign will be coordinated across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, signaling a push for systematic national reach.

The exercise is expected to formalize and digitize membership records, a foundational step for improving party administration, candidate selection processes, and policy development. For a political party that has historically held a smaller presence compared to larger rivals, a successful membership drive could enhance its organizational capacity and electoral relevance ahead of future polls.

The launch in the capital is anticipated to be followed by state-level deployments, with local party executives tasked with overseeing registration in their regions. This bottom-up approach underscores the ADC’s stated goal of empowering its units from the local government area level upward.

Analysts note that such large-scale membership validation is common among Nigerian parties seeking to reposition themselves. The ADC’s focus on “internal democracy” aligns with broader national discourse on party reform, though the practical implementation of member participation remains a key test. The success of the February 2026 launch will likely hinge on logistical coordination and sustained engagement beyond the initial ceremony.

The party’s move comes amid continuous realignments in Nigeria’s political space, where building a verifiable and active membership base is increasingly seen as essential for long-term viability. Results from this registration exercise could influence the ADC’s strategy for the next general election cycle.
