Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has pledged the All Progressives Congress (APC) will secure victory in the 2026 Area Councils election in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Governor AbdulRazaq, speaking on behalf of a committee of state governors and senior party leaders, made the commitment during the inauguration of the APC National Campaign Council for the FCT polls in Abuja.
He assured President Bola Tinubu and the party’s national leadership that the campaign would focus on strategic engagement with community stakeholders and local influencers across the FCT’s six area councils. “I assure Mr. President and our party leaders that we will work as a team with various stakeholders and community influencers to deliver FCT to the All Progressives Congress,” Governor AbdulRazaq stated. He added that the APC represents “the veritable vessel for Nigeria’s progress and sustainable future,” expressing confidence that residents would align with the party.
The inauguration of the national campaign council marks the formal start of the party’s grassroots mobilization for the 2026 local government elections. Winning control of the FCT’s area councils—which manage critical local services and infrastructure—is seen as strategically significant for the APC, both in consolidating its presence in the nation’s capital and in building organizational strength for future electoral cycles.
Governor AbdulRazaq emphasized that successful mobilization would depend on coordinated teamwork and a structured, stakeholder-driven approach to connect with voters at the community level. The campaign council’s work will involve coordinating with existing party structures and identifying local influencers to broaden the APC’s appeal ahead of the polls.
The 2026 FCT Area Councils election will determine the leadership of Abuja’s local governments. For the APC, maintaining or gaining control in the FCT would reinforce its narrative of nationwide influence and provide a foundation for continued political engagement in the federal capital territory. Party officials are expected to deploy resources and senior figures to the campaign in the coming months, with the committee of governors playing a leading oversight role. The outcome will be closely watched as an indicator of the party’s organizational reach beyond its traditional strongholds.
