APC Wins Two Polling Units in Presidential Villa FCT Polls

APC Wins Polling Units in Presidential Villa Area During FCT Council Elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured victories in two polling units located within the Presidential Villa vicinity in the ongoing Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections.

At a polling unit stationed at No. 4 Kofo Abayomi Street, adjacent to the Officers Mess within the Presidential Villa complex, the APC received 24 votes. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) trailed with five votes. A second polling unit, designated for the Presidential Villa/Police Affairs Commission, saw the APC lead with 32 votes, followed by the ADC with 11 votes and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with two votes.

These results represent a portion of the voting across the FCT’s six area councils, which are conducting elections to chairpersons and councilors. The FCT, distinct from Nigeria’s states, is administered by a minister appointed by the president but also has democratically elected local government areas responsible for community-level services.

The specific polling units within the Presidential Villa enclave are often symbolic, comprising mainly security personnel, civil servants, and accredited residents of that high-security zone. While the voter populations in these units are relatively small, results from the Villa area frequently draw public attention due to their proximity to the seat of federal power.

The APC, Nigeria’s governing party, has historically maintained considerable influence in the FCT, which includes the capital city, Abuja. In the last FCT area council elections held in 2022, the APC won control of three of the six area councils. The current election cycle will determine local leadership for the next four years across all councils, impacting municipal administration, local revenue, and community development projects.

Voting continues in other polling units across the territory, with final results expected to consolidate control of the six area councils. The elected council officials will oversee the implementation of grassroots governance and development initiatives within the nation’s capital territory.
