APC Leads in Early Results from Nyanya Ward in FCT Area Council Elections
Preliminary results from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections indicate the All Progressives Congress (APC) holds an early lead in Nyanya Ward, part of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC). The figures, sourced from polling units in the ward, show the party securing the highest vote counts in both the chairmanship and councillorship contests.
At Polling Unit 016 in Nyanya, APC received 13 votes for the chairmanship position, followed by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) with five votes, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) with two, and both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) with one vote each. In the councillorship race at the same unit, APC scored 11 votes, ADC had four, PDP one, APGA one, and SDP zero. Voter turnout was notably low, with only 22 voters accredited out of 754 registered.
At another unit, Polling Unit 091 within the same ward, APC’s chairmanship tally was 20 votes. PDP, ADC, the Boot Party (BOOT), and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) each recorded a single vote. For councillorship, the contest was closer, with PDP securing 12 votes, APC 11, and BOOT one. This unit had 428 registered voters, of whom 24 were accredited.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is administering elections for six area council chairmen and 62 councillors across 2,822 polling units in the FCT, with over 1.6 million registered voters eligible to participate. The early figures from Nyanya provide an initial snapshot of voting patterns in one key ward, as collation continues across the territory. The final results will determine local government leadership for the nation’s capital for the next term.
