Nigeria Wins €6.2m Arbitration Against European Dynamics

The Nigerian government has successfully defended against a €6.2 million arbitration claim brought by European Dynamics UK Ltd., an international technology contractor, with a tribunal dismissing all of the firm’s claims in a final, non-appealable ruling.

The dispute centered on a national e-procurement project managed by Nigeria’s Bureau of Public Procurement. According to a statement issued on Sunday by Kamarudeen Ogundele, spokesperson for Attorney General Lateef Fagbemi, the arbitration tribunal wholly rejected the contractor’s demands for payments and damages. The decision relieves Nigeria of an estimated financial exposure exceeding $6.2 million (approximately N9.3 billion).

The Nigerian legal team was represented by Johnson & Wilner LLP, a Nigerian business and technology law firm. Basil Udotai, Esq., the firm’s Founding Partner, led the arbitration alongside strategic partners and associates.

This victory continues a recent pattern of successful legal defenses for Nigeria in high-stakes international disputes. The ruling follows two significant precedents: in 2023, Nigeria won an $11 billion case against Process and Industrial Developments (PID) in London, and in October of the same year, the UK Supreme Court ordered PID to pay Nigeria £44 million in legal costs.

The latest arbitration outcome underscores the effectiveness of Nigeria’s coordinated legal strategy in contesting commercial claims arising from public sector contracts. The final and binding nature of the tribunal’s decision provides closure to the specific e-procurement project conflict and mitigates immediate fiscal risk. Observers note that these consistent wins in international forums may strengthen Nigeria’s position in future negotiations and disputes involving foreign contractors and public procurement initiatives.
