Tinubu’s APC Wins FCT Elections with Wike’s Infrastructure

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has credited the infrastructural development under the administration of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike for the party’s victory in the recent FCT local government elections, despite the minister not being a member of the APC. National Secretary Ajibola Basiru stated that Wike’s work directly serves the APC-led federal government of President Bola Tinubu.

Basiru, speaking on TVC’s Beyond The Headlines, highlighted that significant public works across the FCT over the past two and a half years were a decisive factor in the polls. He noted that improvements were visible in both urban centres and suburban communities, describing the minister’s performance as “sterling.” According to Basiru, this effective delivery of democratic dividends, combined with the APC’s strategic engagement and careful selection of candidates with credible political backgrounds from various parties, secured the electoral win.

The APC official maintained that the party’s success is intrinsically linked to the administrative achievements under the current FCT administration. “Wike is not a member of our party, but he works for an APC government headed by Tinubu,” Basiru said. He pointed to the “massive infrastructural development” in the territory as evidence, adding that the party’s own efforts in candidate selection complemented the government’s performance.

Basiru’s remarks frame the local election outcome as validation of a governance model where ministerial performance under a national party administration bolsters electoral prospects at the sub-national level, even without formal party affiliation. The statement underscores the APC’s intent to highlight tangible development projects as a core campaign theme ahead of future elections. It also signals the party’s strategy of acknowledging cross-party contributions to reinforce a narrative of pragmatic national governance under President Tinubu.
