APC 2026 Convention Hailed as Model of Organisation and Security
Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, who also served as Chairman of the Venue Subcommittee for the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2026 National Convention, has declared the event a benchmark for future political gatherings, citing meticulous planning and strategic innovations as key to its success.
Speaking after the convention at Eagle Square, Abiodun detailed a systematic review process undertaken by his subcommittee. He explained that members conducted an immediate on-site assessment following their appointment, which led to a comprehensive redesign of the venue layout. This process included simulations involving approximately 12,000 anticipated participants to model and ensure efficient crowd movement and seamless entry and exit.
Specific measures implemented included assigning dedicated entry points for different attendee categories—delegates, committee members, and VIPs—and establishing clear emergency exit routes. Furthermore, strategic placement of surveillance cameras within and around the venue was part of an enhanced security protocol aimed at monitoring activities in real-time.
“We identified weak areas from past experiences and redesigned the arena to eliminate them. The goal was to deliver a seamless and world-class convention,” Abiodun stated.
The convention attracted about 11,000 attendees, comprising 8,400 delegates, 1,800 committee members, and 200 VIPs. Abiodun credited President Bola Tinubu’s trust in his committee and linked the event’s smooth execution to the administration’s broader “Renewed Hope Agenda,” which emphasises effective governance and institutional excellence.
Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, described the convention as “unprecedented,” highlighting the full representation from all 36 states and the Federation. She praised the planning team for setting a new standard.
Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, representing Ogun Central, also lauded the event as a hallmark achievement, attributing its success to the effective leadership and precise coordination demonstrated by the organising committee.
The successful execution of the APC’s national convention is seen as a significant operational milestone for the ruling party, demonstrating its capacity to manage large-scale events ahead of future electoral cycles. The comprehensive security and crowd management model implemented may now inform protocols for similar gatherings across the country.
