Nwifuru Sets Standards for 2027 APC Aspirants in Ebonyi

Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has set a clear benchmark for All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates seeking re-election in 2027, insisting that only those with demonstrable achievements in their current or previous roles will receive party backing.

Speaking during a commissioning ceremony in the Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Nwifuru—represented by State APC Chairman Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha—warned that lawmakers without visible developmental records in their constituencies should not expect party support. He emphasized that the APC will not repeat what he described as the “mistakes of 2023,” when some candidates were returned to office without tangible results to show for their tenure.

“The time for stock-taking has come,” Nwifuru declared. “Only those with results and visible achievements will be considered to fly our party’s tickets for the next general elections. Those who have nothing to show for their years of representation will have themselves to blame.”

The commissioning event, led by Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate and Ebonyi North Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi, showcased several infrastructure projects including roads, classroom blocks, and street lighting. Nwebonyi said his motivation for the projects stemmed from a desire to complement the governor’s developmental agenda in the senatorial district. He pledged to set a high standard in representative governance, vowing that his record would be difficult—if not impossible—to surpass if re-elected in 2027.

“This is my way of contributing beyond my core legislative duties of lawmaking and oversight,” Nwebonyi said, addressing Governor Nwifuru directly. “I am complementing your efforts in our senatorial district.”

The governor’s stance signals a potential shake-up in Ebonyi State’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections, with performance-based selection likely to influence candidate endorsements at all levels.
