APC Benue Denies Zoning Directives Amid 2027 Election Plans

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State has dismissed claims that it has sanctioned or initiated zoning arrangements ahead of its forthcoming primaries and the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued yesterday, Benedict Yawe, the state publicity secretary, urged stakeholders to halt any ongoing zoning-related activities in several local government areas until the state secretariat formally communicates an official position.

The party reiterated that all political engagements across the state’s 23 local government areas must be conducted in consultation with recognised lead pointmen and local government party chairmen, in accordance with the APC constitution.

“The State Working Committee of the APC in Benue State wishes to clarify that it has not issued any directive for the commencement of zoning activities in any part of the state,” the statement read.

“The party notes with concern reports of ongoing zoning exercises in some LGAs and states unequivocally that such activities are unauthorised,” it added.

The clarification comes amid growing speculation and informal arrangements in various local councils, raising questions about the party’s internal cohesion as it prepares for future electoral contests. Party insiders suggest that premature zoning discussions could undermine unity and complicate candidate selection processes.

The APC has called for adherence to due process and constitutional guidelines, warning that unauthorised activities may lead to disciplinary measures. Stakeholders have been advised to await formal communication from the state leadership before engaging in any zoning deliberations.

As the political landscape in Benue State continues to evolve, the APC’s stance signals a cautious approach to managing internal dynamics ahead of the crucial primaries and the 2027 general elections.
