Nigeria and NCDC Transform North-Central into Mining Hub, Create Jobs

Nigeria’s government, in collaboration with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), has announced plans to transform the North-Central region into a major mining hub, aiming to boost job creation through enhanced local processing of mineral resources.

The initiative, revealed by government officials, seeks to leverage the region’s rich mineral deposits to drive economic growth and industrialization. By focusing on local value addition, the project aims to create employment opportunities and reduce reliance on raw mineral exports.

Officials emphasized that the transformation will involve upgrading infrastructure, improving regulatory frameworks, and fostering partnerships between the public and private sectors. The government highlighted the importance of sustainable mining practices and the need to ensure that local communities benefit from the development.

The North-Central region, known for its diverse mineral wealth including limestone, barite, and gold, is seen as a strategic location for this initiative. The government believes that by developing a robust mining sector, the region can become a key contributor to Nigeria’s economic diversification efforts.

The NCDC’s involvement underscores the commitment to ensuring that health and safety standards are maintained throughout the mining process. This includes measures to protect workers and surrounding communities from potential health risks associated with mining activities.

The project is part of a broader strategy to harness Nigeria’s natural resources for economic development. The government has pledged to provide the necessary support to attract investment and facilitate the growth of the mining sector in the North-Central region.

Stakeholders, including local leaders and industry experts, have welcomed the initiative, noting its potential to stimulate economic activity and improve livelihoods. However, they also stressed the need for transparent governance and equitable distribution of benefits to ensure long-term success.

As the plan moves forward, the government has called for collaboration among all stakeholders to achieve the shared goal of transforming the North-Central region into a thriving mining hub that contributes to Nigeria’s economic prosperity.
