The Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Sambo, expressed sympathy for the victims of the Ikeja crash involving a train and a Lagos State staff bus. Earlier, officials reported that two people were killed and many others injured on Thursday when a moving train collided with a BRT bus at the PWD bus stop in the Ikeja area.
Sambo directed an immediate and thorough investigation into the incident, which involved a Nigerian Railway Corporation passenger train and a Lagos State Government staff bus transporting workers to their offices in the Shogunle area. In a statement, Henshaw Ogubike, Director of Press and Public Relations for the ministry, noted that the Minister prayed for the repose of the souls of those who died and for a swift recovery of the injured.
“We are saddened by the news of the accident which occurred this morning involving a train operated by the Nigerian Railway Corporation and a Lagos State staff bus, conveying workers to their offices in the early hours of today in Shogunle, Lagos,” Ogubike said. “We pray for those who have lost their lives that Almighty God may grant them eternal rest, and we pray for a speedy recovery for the injured.”
The Minister also commiserated with the families of the victims, the government, and the people of Lagos State. He praised the Lagos State government, the National Emergency Management Agency, and members of the public for their cooperation in clearing the crash site and ensuring that the injured received immediate treatment. Meanwhile, the Nigerian Railway Police Command has taken over the investigation, acting on the Transportation Minister’s directive for a detailed inquiry.
