Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu of Lagos State has suspended all political campaigns and ordered national flags to be flown at half‑mast in response to the recent train crash. The accident occurred Thursday morning when a passenger train collided with a Lagos State Government staff bus traveling from Ikotun to the state secretariat in Alausa, near the PWD area of Ikeja. Several people were injured in the crash.
The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile, announced the suspension and the flag‑half‑mast directive on the governor’s Twitter account, adding that Sanwo‑Olu thanked medical personnel and other officials for their swift response. He also directed that workers observe a half‑day of work the following day.
According to the latest figures, the incident involved 85 passengers on the train and resulted in six fatalities. Injuries were reported as follows: 42 moderate, 29 serious, and eight mild.
