10th NASS: Why Reps speaker should come from South East – Group

A group under the auspices of the Coalition of South Eastern Young Leaders Association, CSYLA, has said the All Progressives Congress, APC, having secured a majority in the 10th National Assembly, should zone the Speaker of the House of Representatives to the South East.

Okechukwu Kalu, leader of the CSYLA, gave his opinion on Friday, urging the ruling party to consider the region while zoning the various leadership positions in the National Assembly.

According to the group, if the Southeast does not get the slot for Senate President, then it should be considered for the Speaker of the House.

It, therefore, suggested that the spokesperson of the House of Rep. Benjamin Kalu is best suited for the position.

It came to this conclusion after a mid-week meeting of stakeholders in the South East.

“We are of the firm belief that the leadership of the House of Representatives would be better under Rep. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, who is the current spokesperson of the House of Representatives.

“Our position is hinged on our confidence that he will build on the landmark achievements of Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila and Rep. Wase, who brought great innovations on better ways of getting things done in the legislature,” the group stated on Friday.
