APC Taraba Primary Eligibility Restricted to Registered Members

Taraba State’s All Progressives Congress (APC) has clarified that only members who obtained their membership cards through the party’s electronic registration system will be eligible to participate in the upcoming primary elections.

The state chairman, Abubakar Bawa, announced this policy during a meeting with two House of Representatives aspirants at the party’s state secretariat in Jalingo over the weekend. Bawa emphasized the importance of maintaining party unity and conducting campaigns peacefully as the APC prepares for the 2027 general elections.

The chairman stressed that the party is committed to ensuring a fair and transparent process for all members seeking elective positions. He urged aspirants to focus their campaigns at the grassroots level and engage directly with voters. Bawa assured that his leadership would uphold principles of justice, fairness, and equal opportunity for all contestants.

The two aspirants received by the chairman are competing for seats in different federal constituencies: one for the Ardo-Kola/Lau/Karim-Lamido Federal Constituency and the other for the Sardauna/Kurmi/Gashaka Federal Constituency.

This move to restrict primary participation to e-registered members reflects the party’s efforts to modernize its membership verification process and prevent potential disputes during candidate selection. The APC’s approach in Taraba State aligns with broader trends in Nigerian politics, where parties are increasingly adopting digital solutions to enhance transparency and credibility in their internal processes.

As the 2027 general elections approach, the APC’s focus on internal party democracy and transparent primaries could play a crucial role in strengthening its position across various levels of government in Taraba State. The party’s commitment to fairness and equal opportunity for aspirants may also contribute to maintaining cohesion within its ranks as members prepare for the electoral challenges ahead.
