ADC expels Nafiu Bala, others over alleged anti-party activities — Daily Nigerian

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expelled Nafiu Bala and five other members from the party due to alleged anti-party activities. This decision was made during the party’s 8th National Convention, which took place in Abuja on Tuesday. A motion for their expulsion was proposed and seconded at the convention, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.

During the proceedings, the party’s disciplinary committee presented a report indicating that the expelled members had been given an opportunity to retract their actions but had failed to do so. The report specifically mentioned, “Mr. Nafiu Bala, Odion Kennedy, Mrs. Stella Chukwuma, Johnny, Derek, and Elias have been given time to retrace their actions but have failed to do so.” This statement served as a basis for the convention to proceed with the expulsions under Article 92 of the party’s constitution, which empowers the National Convention to suspend or expel members and take disciplinary action against individuals, organs, officers, and members.

These expulsions occur amidst a leadership crisis within the ADC, as two factions are currently vying for control of the party. Notably, Nafiu Bala had previously filed a lawsuit aimed at preventing the David Mark-led faction from presenting itself as the legitimate leadership of the party. The ADC’s decision to expel these members underscores the growing internal divisions and reflects the party’s efforts to assert authority over its membership and leadership structure.
