The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has temporarily suspended its online company registration portal for scheduled maintenance, citing cybersecurity concerns following a recent data breach. In an official statement posted on its X account on Wednesday, the commission confirmed that the portal would be inaccessible from midnight on April 17 to 6 a.m. on April 20, 2026.
The move comes after the commission acknowledged a cyberattack on its database, which compromised millions of data points in Nigeria. While the maintenance is described as routine, it coincides with efforts to address vulnerabilities exposed by the breach. The CAC is working in collaboration with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) to mitigate the impact and strengthen its systems.
The Nigeria Data Protection Commission also announced on Friday that it has launched an investigation into the incident to assess the scope of the data breach and ensure compliance with data protection regulations.
The temporary suspension of the portal is expected to affect businesses and individuals seeking to register or update company information during the maintenance window. The CAC has urged users to plan accordingly and assured the public that the measures are aimed at enhancing the security and efficiency of its services.
This development underscores the growing challenges of cybersecurity in Nigeria’s digital infrastructure, particularly for institutions handling sensitive corporate and personal data. As the investigation unfolds, stakeholders will be watching closely to see what steps are taken to prevent future breaches and restore public confidence in the commission’s systems.
