Otti sad as US-based medical doctor dies during free medical outreach

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has expressed his shock at the sudden death of Dr. Uzoma Nwaubani, a medical expert who passed away after a brief illness during a free medical outreach in the state. Dr. Nwaubani had traveled from the United States to participate in the Association of Nigerian Physicians in Americas (ANPA) medical mission in Abia. According to a statement personally signed by Governor Otti, she experienced a medical emergency and was rushed to the hospital, where a skilled medical team attempted to resuscitate her, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

Governor Otti described Dr. Nwaubani as a compassionate and exemplary medical practitioner. Alongside her husband, a native of Abia, and their daughter, who is a final-year medical student in the US, she had volunteered to provide free medical services to the citizens of Abia. The governor extended his deepest sympathies to her family and the ANPA community during this difficult time. He also commended Dr. Nwaubani’s family for their decision not to suspend the ongoing outreach despite the tragedy, calling it a testament to their commitment to public health.

Furthermore, Governor Otti reiterated that his administration would continue to prioritize healthcare delivery for the people of Abia. The ANPA medical mission, which offers free healthcare services to underserved communities, has been a vital initiative in improving access to quality medical care in the state. Dr. Nwaubani’s death has cast a somber mood over the program, with colleagues and beneficiaries mourning the loss of a dedicated professional who traveled thousands of miles to serve.
