Former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode has delivered a scathing critique of the recent national convention organized by the David-Mark faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He characterized the event as disorganized and lacking credibility. In a statement shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday, Fani-Kayode claimed that the gathering showcased poor coordination and significant internal disunity within the party faction.
Fani-Kayode described the convention venue as overcrowded and uncomfortable, noting that attendees were visibly sweating due to inadequate facilities, including a lack of functional air-conditioning. He depicted the atmosphere as chaotic, with participants engaging in loud arguments and even physical altercations. He recounted a particularly awkward moment when an elderly speaker mistakenly referred to the All Progressives Congress (APC) instead of the ADC during his address.
In addition to these observations, Fani-Kayode criticized the overall tone and appearance of the event, suggesting it lacked seriousness and cohesion. He portrayed the gathering as more of a collection of “hungry, ragged, and desperate” individuals rather than a legitimate political party convention. He dismissed the faction’s political strength, likening the event to a “street convention” of vagabonds and opportunists rather than a serious political assembly.
Concluding his remarks, the former minister asserted that the faction poses no real challenge in future elections, stating emphatically, “The ADC ain’t going nowhere!” His comments underscore the ongoing divisions within the ADC and raise concerns about the party’s internal stability as it prepares for upcoming political contests.
