APC Dismisses PDP Claims on Saraki Offa Robbery Allegations

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has rejected allegations by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is orchestrating the prosecution of former Senate President Bukola Saraki over the 2018 Offa robbery incident.

Speaking at a press briefing in Ilorin on Saturday, the APC Secretary in the state, Mr Abdulwaheed Balogun, described the PDP’s claims as “melodramatic” and lacking substance. He said the party felt compelled to respond to the circulating misinformation to clarify the situation and correct public perception.

Balogun addressed the PDP and Saraki’s assertion that the governor was behind plans to file charges against Saraki and three others in connection with the armed robbery, which resulted in over 30 deaths. “Neither Saraki nor the PDP should be concerned if they have no culpability,” he said, emphasising that courts operate on evidence and facts rather than public rhetoric.

He urged those implicated in the case to allow the judicial process to proceed without resorting to personal attacks or media campaigns. “The proper thing is for defendants to face trial and let the court determine guilt or innocence,” Balogun stated. He noted that individuals familiar with events from that period would attest to the facts and called for due process to be respected.

The APC secretary also dismissed statements questioning the popularity of the current administration, pointing out that residents of the state are best placed to assess the government’s performance. He praised the state government for its commitment to pursuing justice and reiterated that the matter is already before a competent court.

Balogun warned against attempts to sway public opinion through media narratives, stressing that the judiciary is responsible for determining the outcome of the case. He urged the PDP to advise Saraki to clear his name through legal channels rather than making statements that could undermine public institutions.

“No individual is above the law, and legal processes should not be substituted with media campaigns,” he said. Balogun reaffirmed that the administration remains focused on governance priorities, including infrastructure development, healthcare improvement, and the timely payment of salaries and pensions.

He concluded by stating that the government would not be distracted by political criticism and would continue to uphold its commitment to security, development, and justice in Kwara State.
