Labour Party Denies Fraudulent Social Media Accounts, Warns Public

The Labour Party has denied operating any active social media accounts, dismissing as fraudulent an X account named “LABOUR PARTY (LP)NIG” with the handle @LabourpartyNGR_, allegedly run by Julius Abure and his faction. In a statement signed by Ken Eluma Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser on Media to the Interim National Chairman, the party clarified that this account falsely claims to speak on its behalf.

According to the statement, preliminary investigations confirmed that the account was previously disowned by the party in February, after which its operators altered both the account name and handle in an attempt to mislead the public.

The Labour Party stated that its only official social media accounts—currently inactive—are its Facebook page, Labour Party-Nig (approximately 12,000 followers), and its X account, LabourPartyNG (approximately 837,000 followers). The party has petitioned the Nigerian Police to recover the official X account, which remains under the control of former leadership.

The statement added that the matter is under active investigation, with individuals including Barr. Julius Abure and Alhaji Umar Farouk cooperating with the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Department. They are providing information regarding their activities, including the unauthorized use of the party’s social media platforms.

Until the accounts are recovered, the Labour Party reiterated that it does not operate any social media channels for public communication. All official information is released exclusively through authorized press statements from the Office of the Interim National Chairman. Any changes to this communication structure will be formally announced.

The public is strongly advised to disregard content from the fraudulent account @LabourpartyNGR_ and any posts currently circulating via LabourPartyNG, including a recent claim that the party is awaiting the return of Mr. Peter Obi and Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. The Labour Party described such statements as entirely unauthorized and unrepresentative of its official position.
