NPFL Confirms May 24 End Date for 2025–26 Season Plans

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has reaffirmed its commitment to concluding the 2025–26 season in May, with final fixtures scheduled for May 24. The league’s Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi, emphasized that this timeline is part of a carefully structured calendar designed to avoid the disruptions that have marred previous seasons.

To ensure seamless operations, the NPFL worked closely with the NFF Competitions Department at the start of the season to create dedicated windows for the Federation Cup. This adjustment, which has been in effect since January, has allowed the league to maintain fixture fidelity while accommodating national cup commitments. Owumi credited the success of this approach to meticulous planning and the cooperation of clubs across the division.

“The windows were created to ensure smooth operations and prevent the kind of disruptions we have seen in past seasons,” Owumi told NPFL Media. “We have been intentional in maintaining fixture fidelity, and it took a lot of planning and cooperation from the clubs to achieve this.”

The league is set to enter a two-week break this weekend to accommodate the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Cup window, further underscoring the NPFL’s efforts to balance domestic and national competitions. This strategic pause aligns with the league’s broader objective of delivering a well-organized and uninterrupted season.

The NPFL’s proactive scheduling reflects its determination to enhance the quality and professionalism of Nigerian football. By adhering to a clear timeline and fostering collaboration with key stakeholders, the league aims to set a new standard for operational efficiency in the country’s top-flight competition.
