Solomon Akiyesi Dies in Sleep, Body Arrives at Abuja Morgue

Nollywood actor and entrepreneur Solomon Akiyesi has died, the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) confirmed on Monday. According to AGN President Abubakar Yakubu, Akiyesi passed away in his sleep on Sunday. The actor’s body was transferred to a mortuary in Abuja, where it remains pending further investigation.

Yakubu told TheCable Lifestyle that the guild is awaiting additional information from Akiyesi’s family regarding the circumstances of his death. “Yes, it is true. He died yesterday. He slept and did not wake up. We await further details from the family. His body is in the morgue in Abuja, where the sad incident happened,” he said.

Born in the Akoko‑Edo/Ososo area of Edo State, Solomon Akiyesi was a long‑standing figure in the Nigerian film industry. Over the years he appeared in a range of productions, including Heart of a Saint, Desperate Ladies, Pretty Liars and Bridge of Contract. In addition to his acting career, Akiyesi was involved in various entrepreneurial ventures.

The news of his death has triggered an outpouring of tributes from fans, colleagues and public figures across Nigeria, many of whom expressed shock and disbelief at the loss of a prominent cultural contributor.

Details surrounding the cause of death have not been released, and the AGN has indicated that it will share further updates as soon as they become available from the family and relevant authorities.
