FC Basira cuts nine players after failed NPFL promotion

FC Basira has confirmed the release of nine players following the conclusion of the 2025‑26 Nigeria National League (NNL) season. The club disclosed the names of the departing footballers in a statement issued by media officer Ram Ramalan Abubakar.

The players listed for departure are Abdullahi Abdulrahman, Zamani Panshak, Mko Andrew, Zakaria Sunday and Enoch Kudu. The remaining four released players are veteran midfielder Ichull Lordson, Peter Eneji, Musa Aminu and Ishaku Faisal.

FC Basira, based in Lafia, concluded the campaign in third place in the NNL Conference C standings. The club missed out on promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after finishing behind the conference leaders and runners‑up.

The decision to part ways with the nine players comes as part of a broader squad restructuring aimed at strengthening the team for the upcoming season. Management indicated that the moves are intended to address identified gaps in the squad and to improve competitiveness ahead of the next NNL campaign.

The released players comprised a mix of young talents and experienced professionals. Ichull Lordson, the most senior among them, has been a regular fixture in the midfield for several seasons, while the other seven were largely involved in the club’s recent push for promotion.

FC Basira’s administration has not disclosed details of any immediate replacements or the terms of the players’ contracts. However, the club signalled that it will commence recruitment activities shortly, focusing on players who can contribute to achieving promotion in the 2026‑27 season.

The club’s statement underscored the importance of aligning the squad with the strategic objectives set by the board, emphasizing a commitment to progress despite the setback of missing out on NPFL promotion. Further updates are expected as the transfer window approaches and FC Basira finalises its revamped roster.
