Noir Network Empowers Black Female Creators, Secures $50K Deals in 6 Months

For several years Amira Virgil, a Black female content creator and Twitch streamer based in Brooklyn, sought a dedicated online space where creators like herself could receive business guidance and peer support. In 2021 she launched Noir Network, a community aimed at helping Black women in the gaming and streaming industry navigate the commercial aspects of content creation.

Within the first six months of operation, Noir Network secured more than $50,000 in brand deals for its members. Virgil attributes this success to the collaborative nature of the community. “Having people to talk to, learn from, and collaborate with is essential,” she said. “I hope Noir continues to inspire creators, whether they work in collectives or smaller groups.”

Virgil is also known online as Xmiramira, a name followed by thousands of fans. Beyond Noir Network, she founded The Black Simmer, a digital hub for Black players of The Sims, created the Melanin Pack for The Sims 4, and consults for several gaming publishers. In 2025 she was featured on Mashable’s Mash101 list, which highlights creators shaping digital spaces.

In an interview, Virgil discussed the equipment that underpins her production workflow. She has used a Sony A6400 mirrorless camera for several years, praising its image quality and compatibility with OBS streaming software. For audio, she relies on a Shure SM7B microphone, noting that optimal sound requires additional accessories such as a Cloudlifter and acoustic treatment. A Sabrent 5‑bay docking station helps her organize files for streams, YouTube videos, and game mods.

Transitioning to short‑form content, Virgil employs a Hohem iSteady X3 gimbal stabilizer for Instagram stories and reels, and a Neewer ring light to maintain consistent lighting. She also uses a Sigma 16 mm lens on her camera for a distinctive visual style, and a wireless lavalier microphone for affordable, clear audio in short videos.

When asked about gaming gear, Virgil named Logitech’s G705 mouse and G715 keyboard as staples in her setup, and Sony MDR‑XB50AP earbuds for discreet listening. Her “desert‑island” game list includes The Sims 2: TS2, World of Warcraft, Dynasty Warriors, Assassin’s Creed 2, and Diner Dash.

Virgil emphasized that the unpredictability of her career is a central attraction. She describes her ideal audience as people who enjoy fun and positivity, especially amid a challenging online environment. A current priority is to archive past content—both old and new—to ensure it remains accessible on her YouTube channels. Ultimately, she aims to inspire young women and girls to pursue creative careers despite obstacles.

The interview, edited for brevity, forms part of a broader Mashable series that profiles creators, their tools, and emerging trends. Media Talk Africa will continue to monitor the impact of initiatives like Noir Network on diversifying the digital creator economy.
