20 APC govs select Peter Mbah as PGF chairman after removing Uzodinma

Enugu Governor Peter Mbah has been named chairperson of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), according to sources cited by DAILY POST. The appointment follows reports that Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma was removed from the post.

The decision is said to have been taken during an extraordinary meeting of approximately 20 governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) held in Abuja on Thursday night. Arise TV listed several participants, including Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, and Enugu Governor Peter Mbah, alongside 17 other APC governors.

However, the PGF’s Director‑General, Folorunso Aluko, issued a statement rejecting the claim, describing it as “false and misleading.” Aluko asserted that no extraordinary meeting was convened and that Governor Uzodinma remains the forum’s chairman.

A source familiar with the matter contradicted the director‑general’s denial, confirming to DAILY POST that the meeting did occur at the Ogun Government Lodge on Thursday night. The source did not disclose the identity of participants beyond those already mentioned by the media outlet.

The Progressive Governors Forum, formed in 2018, serves as a platform for APC governors to coordinate policy positions, share best practices, and present a united front on national issues. Leadership of the forum typically rotates among member states, with the chairmanship considered both symbolic and strategic for intra‑party cohesion.

Should the appointment of Governor Mbah be confirmed, it would represent a shift in the forum’s leadership at a time when the APC is navigating internal realignments ahead of forthcoming elections. The controversy surrounding the alleged meeting and the conflicting statements from PGF officials underscore tensions within the party’s gubernatorial ranks.

Until an official communiqué from the Progressive Governors Forum clarifies the outcome of the alleged extraordinary meeting, the status of the chairmanship remains disputed. Stakeholders are expected to await further clarification from the forum’s secretariat, which may issue a formal announcement in the coming days.
