Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has received his receipt for the payment of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential nomination form, confirming his intent to contest the 2027 Nigerian presidential election under the party’s banner.

The payment of ₦90 million was made on 8 May 2026, and the ADC announced the receipt through its official X account on Saturday. In the post, the party described the development as “a new chapter in Nigeria’s democratic journey” and highlighted the significance of Atiku’s candidacy for the ADC’s broader agenda of national renewal and people‑driven leadership.

The ADC’s statement emphasized the party’s commitment to “unity, competence, economic recovery, security and national progress” as it seeks to present an alternative to the incumbent political establishment. The formal presentation of nomination forms is scheduled for Monday at the ADC National Secretariat in Abuja.

Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president and long‑standing figure in Nigerian politics, previously founded the ADC after leaving the People’s Democratic Party in 2014. His move to seek the ADC ticket marks his first presidential bid under the party, which has positioned itself as a centrist platform focused on democratic inclusion and economic revitalisation.

The receipt of the nomination form payment signals that the ADC is moving forward with its internal processes ahead of the 2027 election cycle. The party’s announcement suggests an organized timeline for candidate registration and may prompt other aspirants to finalize their filings in the coming weeks.

As the 2027 presidential race approaches, the ADC’s formalisation of Atiku Abubakar’s candidacy adds another prominent name to an increasingly competitive field. The upcoming nomination ceremony in Abuja will be closely watched by observers monitoring the evolving dynamics of Nigeria’s political landscape.
