ADC members in Yobe back alignment with APC ahead of 2027 — Daily Nigerian

Yobe State political leaders have announced that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will merge with the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections. The decision, reached after consultations with party members across all 17 local government areas, was disclosed at a stakeholder meeting in Damaturu on Saturday.

Prof. Muhammad Jawa, ADC chairman in Yobe and founder of the Arewa Strategic Implementation Group for Atiku (ASIGA), said the move reflects a unanimous call for unity and political stability. “I am pleased to acknowledge and accept your call for strategic political alignment with the APC,” Jawa stated, adding that the realignment is driven by patriotism, foresight and a commitment to national progress.

The ADC leadership indicated that the transition will be managed through peaceful consultations and coordinated engagements aimed at supporting the incumbent APC administration and President Bola Tinubu’s political agenda. Jawa also praised Governor Mai Mala Buni for initiatives in peacebuilding, infrastructure, youth empowerment and inclusive governance, and highlighted the role of Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, Minister of Police Affairs, in maintaining political continuity in the state.

In addition, Jawa expressed backing for Baba Malam Wali, identified by the group as the preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship race in Yobe. He urged party members to remain disciplined, peaceful and united throughout the transition process.

Abubakar Garzali, state leader of the ADC United coalition, corroborated the consensus, noting that stakeholders across Yobe have resolved to support the shift to APC. Garzali credited Jawa with providing leadership, grassroots mobilization and political coordination that strengthened the ADC’s structure during the 2023 election cycle. He argued that alignment with the ruling party will promote political stability and sustain development efforts in the state.

The State Coordinator of ASIGA in Yobe echoed the sentiment, affirming that members will back President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” through the proposed merger. The coordinator said the decision reflects the collective position of the movement’s stakeholders in Yobe.

The announcement signals a significant realignment in Yobe’s political landscape, potentially consolidating APC’s influence ahead of the 2027 elections. The parties involved have pledged to manage the transition through dialogue and to maintain cohesion within the state’s political apparatus. Further details on the implementation timeline and any formal procedural steps are expected in forthcoming meetings.
