APC Chairman Warns Aspirants Against Disruptive Conduct Ahead of Party Primaries
Abuja – The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, issued a stark warning on Monday to any aspirant who might engage in conduct that could derail the party’s upcoming primary elections. Speaking through his Special Adviser on Media and Information Strategy, Abimbola Tooki, Yilwatda said the party would not tolerate violence, unrest, or any activity that undermines the credibility of the primaries, and that violators face immediate suspension.
The statement, released ahead of the scheduled primary exercises, emphasized that the APC will enforce disciplinary measures against any candidate or supporter found instigating disorder or sponsoring violent acts. “We have built a reputation as a nationally accepted political platform, and personal ambition will not eclipse the collective interest of the party,” Yilwatda said.
Yilwatda underscored the importance of a peaceful and sports‑manlike approach to the electoral process. “In every democratic contest, only one person will emerge victorious. What matters is the spirit with which the process is approached,” he added, urging aspirants to accept the outcome of the primaries without resorting to intimidation or sabotage.
The chairman also called on party members, officials and other stakeholders to rally behind President Bola Tinubu’s administration and to avoid actions that could generate tension within the political landscape. He pointed to ongoing infrastructure projects and reforms under the Tinubu government as part of the APC’s agenda as the nation looks ahead to the 2027 general elections.
Reaffirming the party’s commitment to fairness and inclusivity, Yilwatda said the APC leadership will ensure that the primary process remains transparent and cohesive. The warning comes as the party prepares for a tightly contested selection of candidates for forthcoming elections at various levels, a process that will shape its prospects in the next national vote.
The APC’s firm stance on discipline and order signals an effort to present a united front and to avoid the internecine disputes that have plagued primary contests in Nigeria’s past. Observers note that the party’s ability to enforce these warnings could influence voter confidence and the overall stability of the upcoming electoral cycle.
