National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda, warned that any aspirant who attempts to disrupt the party’s upcoming primaries or engages in conduct that could compromise the process faces disciplinary measures, including possible suspension.
Speaking after a series of screenings carried out by party committees, Yilwatda said aspirants and their supporters must refrain from inciting violence, fostering unrest, or pursuing anti‑party activities that threaten the integrity of the contests. He urged all candidates seeking APC tickets to act with discipline, maturity and statesmanship as the party prepares for nationwide primaries.
“The APC remains committed to transparent, peaceful and credible primaries that strengthen internal democracy and bolster public confidence,” Yilwatda said. He added that the party’s long‑standing democratic reputation cannot be undermined by individual ambition. “Every contest produces winners and losers; democracy thrives on healthy competition, mutual respect and acceptance of outcomes,” he asserted.
Emphasising the need for collective responsibility, the chairman called on aspirants to view themselves as ambassadors of the party and to avoid actions that could create division or heighten political tensions. He praised President Bola Tinubu for initiatives aimed at reinforcing democratic institutions and consolidating internal party processes, citing reforms in infrastructure, rail transport, agriculture, energy and support for small enterprises as evidence of the administration’s focus on economic growth and national development.
Yilwatda appealed to party stakeholders to align with the president’s “Renewed Hope” agenda and to work toward sustaining unity within the APC. The chairman’s remarks come as the party finalises preparations for its primaries, which are expected to set the stage for forthcoming national elections.
The statements signal a clear directive from the APC leadership: adherence to party rules and respect for the primary outcome are non‑negotiable, and any breach will be met with swift disciplinary action. Observers note that the warning underscores the party’s effort to project internal cohesion and democratic credibility ahead of the electoral calendar.
