No fewer than nine residents were kidnapped by gunmen at the Grow Homes Estate along Kuchibiyi in the Kubuwa area of the Federal Capital Territory. The attackers, estimated at about 20, stormed the estate around 11:30 p.m. on Friday. A resident who identified himself only as Hassan told our correspondent that the victims were taken from two separate apartments, and that the incident caused panic throughout the community.
Hassan recounted, “Yesterday, at about 11:30 p.m., a large number of gunmen came to carry out an operation at Grow Homes Estate along Kuchibiyi. We heard gunshots and the whole community panicked. This morning, we learned the gunmen were about 20. They moved from one apartment to another, confiscating belongings and kidnapping at least nine people, including children and women, from the two apartments.” He added that the assailants fled through the bush that links the community to Paze village, prompting police and estate security to search the area since morning in hopes of rescuing the kidnapped residents.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Abuja police, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident. She said police and estate security are combing the bushes to ensure the victims are rescued. “Upon receipt of the distress call, we immediately deployed our men to the scene. The suspects, however, abruptly suspended their operations and took some victims with them into the bush. Operatives of the police and the estate security are still searching the area to ensure they are rescued unharmed,” Adeh said.
Adeh urged residents not to panic and called on them to assist the police with credible information that could lead to the arrest of the assailants. “We urge the residents to remain calm and provide useful information that could lead to the swift arrest of these criminals,” she added.
