The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) announced on Friday that it has cleared a slate of candidates to contest the upcoming primary elections in Anambra State. In a statement released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Dr Ejimofor Opara, the list confirmed eight aspirants for the Senate, 40 for the House of Representatives and 107 for the Anambra State House of Assembly.
All candidates whose names appear on the list are required to report to APGA’s regional office in Awka on 18 May to collect their nomination forms. The party stipulated that the window for purchasing these forms will close on 20 May, urging aspirants to complete the process within the allocated period.
APGA’s National Working Committee used the opportunity to congratulate the successful aspirants and wished them success as they prepare for the primaries. The party’s internal vetting process, described as a “screening” exercise, was aimed at ensuring that only candidates meeting the organization’s criteria move forward to the next stage of the electoral contest.
The release comes as political parties across Nigeria intensify their preparations for the forthcoming electoral cycle, with primary elections serving as the decisive gateway for candidates seeking party nominations. By setting clear deadlines for nomination‑form collection, APGA seeks to streamline its internal timetable and avoid delays that could affect the broader electoral calendar.
Stakeholders will now watch how the cleared aspirants mobilise their constituencies ahead of the primaries, which are expected to shape the party’s slate for the general election later in the year. The next procedural milestone will be the actual primary voting, after which the party will present its official candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives and State Assembly seats.
