The University of Calabar has announced a new date for the resumption of academic activities after the postponement of the gubernatorial and state Houses of Assembly elections. In a release issued by the university’s registrar, Mr. Gabriel Egbe, the start of classes has been moved from March 14 to March 20, 2023.
The registrar explained that, in line with the Independent National Electoral Commission’s decision to shift the elections, the Vice Chancellor has approved an extension of the academic break for members of the university community. Consequently, staff and students are now expected to return to campus on March 20, when full academic activities will resume. Staff assigned to essential duties, however, will continue to perform their responsibilities as scheduled.
The expanded management team has been urged to use this additional break period to put the necessary arrangements in place for a smooth restart of academic operations. On behalf of the Vice Chancellor, the registrar also wished for peaceful and successful elections and advised staff serving as INEC ad‑hoc personnel to act as exemplary ambassadors of the university while carrying out those duties.
