Ogun State Government Slams Door on Terrorist Invasion Rumors, Vows Zero Tolerance for Panic-Mongers

Ogun State government dismisses false rumors of terrorist invasion, confirms safety, arrests spreaders of panic, and urges residents to rely on official channel

Ogun-State-1

The Ogun State Government has forcefully debunked swirling online rumors that the state faces an imminent invasion from Fulani herders, Boko Haram fighters, and other terrorist groups. In a blunt statement, the administration declared the claims baseless and urged residents to ignore what it called a deliberate campaign of misinformation designed to sow panic.

Hon. Kayode Akinmade, the governor’s special adviser on media and strategy, said security intelligence from all relevant agencies confirms that Ogun remains safe and secure. He stressed that there is no truth whatsoever in the frightening narratives circulating on social media and other platforms.

“We have noted with dismay these false reports,” Akinmade said. “The true situation is that there is no imminent threat of invasion by any terrorist group. Security agencies across the state are on high alert, and adequate measures are in place to checkmate any individual or group seeking to foment trouble or undermine public order.”

Akinmade accused certain individuals of exploiting security challenges in other parts of Nigeria to create a climate of fear in Ogun. He described the tactic as highly irresponsible and capable of causing unnecessary anxiety among law-abiding citizens.

The government revealed that security operatives have already arrested some of those behind the false reports. Akinmade confirmed that the suspects are now facing prosecution, a move intended to serve as a deterrent to anyone tempted to spread falsehoods or incite panic.

“This should serve as a clear warning,” he said. “The government will continue to work with security agencies to ensure that those who engage in such acts are held accountable.”

The statement emphasized that Ogun enjoys strong collaboration among security agencies, local authorities, traditional institutions, and community stakeholders. This synergy, the government noted, has significantly enhanced intelligence gathering, rapid response capacity, and overall coordination in maintaining peace.

Governor Dapo Abiodun has prioritized security through sustained investments in infrastructure, logistical support for security agencies, and technology-driven surveillance initiatives, the statement added.

Residents were urged to rely strictly on official government communication channels and recognized security agencies for information. The government warned that indiscriminate sharing of unverified reports on social media could inadvertently aid mischief makers.

Citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant but not alarmed, as all security formations are fully alert and working in close coordination. The government reiterated its commitment to public safety and warned it would not hesitate to take decisive action against anyone attempting to disrupt peace.
