Delta police arrest three suspected armed robbers

The police in Delta State have arrested three suspected robbers with three locally made guns and one live cartridge, concealed in a bag of rice.

The gathered that operatives of the Eagle-Net Special Squad of the Delta State Police Command, on March 12, 2023, around 9:00 am, intercepted the gangsters in a suspected stolen tricycle with reg. no. RRU 773 QK conveying the three male occupants.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the command, DSP Bright Edafe, said when the men were subjected to a thorough search, three locally made guns and one live cartridge were discovered concealed inside a bag of rice they kept in the tricycle.

According to Edafe, two of the suspects took to their heels during the search and escaped into the bush, abandoning the tricycle and the 26-year-old rider named Ahmed Umaru, who hails from Ayingba Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The PPRO said that the tricycle rider was arrested, and the exhibit was recovered, adding that efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects.

In another development, a team from the Operations “COBRA 11” comprising operatives from the response squad, Raiders Squad, and operations department of the Command has botched a syndicate of fake military men in Asaba planning to cause mayhem in the state.

The PPRO stated the hoodlums were arrested on March 12, 2022, following an intelligence report that the syndicate was planning to cause mayhem in the state, having disguised themselves as military personnel to deceive their unsuspecting victims.

The Commissioner of Police for the State Command, CP Ari Muhammed Ali, consequently detailed a combined team from the department of operations “COBRA 11” who embarked on an intelligence-led operation and stormed the suspects’ hideouts around Okwe Axis Asaba in Oshimili South LGA and arrested two suspects, Mike Okon (27) and Wilson Sunday (24), both from Cross-River State.

When a search was conducted on the duo, in army camouflage uniform, and a pair of black jungle boots were recovered from Mike Okon while three green berets and one black beret were recovered from Wilson Sunday.
