A wave of fear swept through Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, yesterday as a mysterious odor once again infiltrated Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School, marking the third occurrence this year. The noxious smell forced the hospitalization of at least 30 students and staff members during school hours, sparking a frantic rush among parents who stormed the campus to locate their children.

Witnesses described the odor as causing severe discomfort, breathing difficulties, and widespread panic within the school premises. Affected individuals were quickly transported to the General Hospital in Ijebu-Ode for medical care. This latest incident has intensified anxiety among parents and residents, as it follows similar episodes in April and May. In April, around 30 students were hospitalized after exposure to an unidentified substance at the same school. Then in May, over 100 students from multiple schools, including Our Lady of Apostles, were affected by another mysterious substance, prompting emergency responses from health officials and school authorities. Investigations into the source of these recurring incidents have yet to yield clear results.

Parents who rushed to the school after Wednesday’s event voiced deep concerns over what they see as a persistent environmental or public health crisis. They are calling on relevant authorities to launch thorough investigations and implement preventive measures to stop future occurrences. As of this report, no official statement has been issued by government agencies, environmental experts, or emergency management officials regarding the cause of the latest odor. Residents have been advised to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information while investigations continue.
