The Auditor‑General for Local Government in Yobe State, Idris Yahaya, has been sentenced to five years’ imprisonment for misappropriating N19.9 million. The conviction was handed down on Monday, 13 March 2023, by Justice Muhammad Lawu Lawan of the Yobe State High Court, following a one‑count charge of criminal misappropriation preferred against him by the Maiduguri Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to a statement released on the EFCC’s Twitter account, Yahaya received funds from the Office of the Auditor General for Local Government and Emirate Affairs, Yobe State, intended for the purchase of an official vehicle—a 2015 Toyota Corolla. He diverted part of that money for personal use, leading to his guilty verdict and the five‑year prison term.
