Former Ekiti State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Olabode Adetoyi, has called on Nigeria’s President‑elect, Bola Tinubu, to develop a comprehensive roadmap for agricultural production. He urged that this policy be reinforced by an Act of Parliament, encompassing crop and livestock production as well as integrated production based on the nation’s comparative advantages.
Adetoyi emphasized the importance of training and retraining youth in agriculture through colleges, universities, and faculties of agriculture, insisting that these programs be delivered in local languages. He also appealed to President‑elect Tinubu to reinstate commodity marketing boards to facilitate the uptake of farmers’ products.
According to Adetoyi, the boards would gather data on product demand, create efficient supply models that reflect regional comparative advantages, manage the exportation of produce through proper procedures, and ensure product safety in coordination with relevant ministries and agencies.
