Kaduna State’s Healthcare infrastructure received a significant boost Tuesday with the commissioning of a state-of-the-art Cardiac Centre at Tudun Wada in Kaduna South Local Government Area. The facility, built through a partnership between the Kaduna State Government and the Muslim World League, was inaugurated by the League’s Secretary General, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa.
In a statement released Saturday, the Director General of the Kaduna State Interfaith Bureau, Malam Tahir Umar Tahir, said the centre will provide advanced cardiovascular diagnosis, treatment and care. He noted the facility is expected to substantially reduce the number of patients seeking specialized cardiac treatment abroad. The centre will serve patients regardless of faith, reflecting the collaborative and inclusive nature of the project.
The commissioning adds a new tertiary healthcare facility to the state’s growing network, complementing the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Specialist Hospital commissioned by President Bola Tinubu in June last year.
Tahir outlined a series of health sector reforms undertaken since Governor Uba Sani assumed office. All 255 Primary Healthcare Centres across the state have been renovated, equipped and upgraded to Level 2 status. Access to maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health services has been expanded, while routine immunisation and disease surveillance systems have been strengthened.
Community outreach programmes have been enhanced, emergency preparedness improved, and the Basic Health Care Provision Fund has been actively implemented. Health insurance coverage has also widened through the Kaduna State Contributory Health Management Authority.
At the secondary level, general hospitals are undergoing infrastructure renewal and have been supplied with modern medical equipment to improve diagnostic capacity. The administration has prioritised recruitment of healthcare professionals across cadres, strengthened workforce planning, and invested in continuous professional development and capacity building.
The state has sustained implementation of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) for doctors and the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) for other eligible health workers. Regular funding of the Medical Residency Training Fund has also been maintained, underscoring a commitment to developing the next generation of specialist physicians.
Officials say these combined efforts are transforming healthcare delivery in Kaduna, positioning the state as a regional hub for quality, accessible medical services.
