Lawmaker Donald Ojogo, representing the Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, survived a serious road accident over the weekend when his two-vehicle convoy collided with a commercial bus on the Ore–Ondo highway. The incident occurred while the federal legislator was traveling to Arogbo in Ese-Odo Local Government Area for a scheduled political engagement.
According to eyewitness accounts, the crash was triggered by the driver of the commercial bus, who attempted a dangerous overtaking maneuver and collided with an oncoming vehicle before striking the lawmaker’s convoy. Ojogo, who recently secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination to seek re-election to the National Assembly, escaped without serious injury. However, several members of his entourage sustained varying degrees of injury and were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Speaking after the incident, Ojogo expressed gratitude for what he described as divine intervention. “God took perfect control of the situation and prevented what could have turned into a tragic incident,” he stated. The lawmaker squarely blamed the commercial bus driver for the accident, citing reckless driving and impatience as the direct causes. He confirmed that the injured aides were receiving treatment and pledged to monitor their recovery closely.
The Ore–Ondo highway, a critical transit corridor in the region, has long been associated with frequent accidents often linked to speeding, unsafe overtaking, and poor road discipline. Ojogo’s near-miss highlights the persistent dangers faced by commuters and public officials alike on Nigerian roads. The lawmaker used the occasion to appeal to motorists to exercise greater caution and adhere to traffic regulations.
Authorities have not yet issued an official report on the crash. The injured members of the convoy remain under medical observation, while the lawmaker has since continued with his constituency engagements. The incident has renewed local calls for improved road safety enforcement on the highway.
