Katsina Police Foil Bandit Attack, Rescue Kidnap Victims

Katsina State Police Command has thwarted an attempted bandit attack in Fulalawa village, Musawa Local Government Area, rescuing multiple kidnapping victims and seizing two motorcycles abandoned by the assailants.

Command spokesperson Abubakar Aliyu confirmed the operation in a statement released Friday. According to Aliyu, the Musawa Police Division received a distress call reporting that armed bandits had stormed the village wielding dangerous weapons. The attackers reportedly broke into local shops, abducted several residents and stole livestock during the raid.

A joint security team was swiftly deployed to the scene. Upon encountering the security personnel, the bandits opened fire. Aliyu said the team responded with superior tactics and firepower, compelling the attackers to abandon their captives and flee into nearby bushes, with several believed to have sustained gunshot wounds.

All kidnapped victims were rescued unharmed and have since been reunited with their families. Two operational motorcycles left behind by the fleeing gunmen were recovered at the scene.

Aliyu said efforts are underway to track down the escaping suspects and bring them to justice. The operation underscores ongoing security challenges in Nigeria’s northwestern region, where banditry and kidnapping for ransom have displaced communities and strained law enforcement resources. Authorities have intensified coordinated patrols and intelligence-led operations in recent months, though sporadic attacks persist in rural areas.

The police command urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements promptly, reaffirming its commitment to restoring safety across affected communities.
